Yamaha MT-07 Parts & Maintenance Guide (2014–2026)

This Yamaha MT-07 parts and maintenance guide covers every model year from 2014 to 2026, including the FZ-07 sold in the US and Canada from 2015 to 2017. The same 689 cc twin runs through every year, so most service parts carry over. Below are the specs and the parts that fit, so you order the right thing the first time.

Quick picks: everything for an MT-07 oil change

An oil change takes 2.6 L (2.75 US qt) of 10W-40 with a new filter. One gallon of oil and one filter covers it with oil left over for top-ups.

Best engine oil for the MT-07

Yamaha recommends its own Yamalube, and the owner’s manual allows grades from 10W-30 to 20W-50 as long as the oil is rated JASO MA for wet clutches. Never use car oil with friction modifiers: it can make the clutch slip.

  • Yamalube 10W-40 All Purpose: the factory-recommended choice; one gallon covers an oil change with a top-up to spare.
  • Motul 7100 10W-50: a full-synthetic option within the manual’s allowed grades, popular with riders who ride hard in hot weather.

MT-07 oil filter

The MT-07 and FZ-07 take the Hiflofiltro HF204. The HF204RC is the same size with a 17 mm nut on the end, which makes it easier to remove next time.

Tip: buy the two-pack if you change your own oil. You will need another filter at the next service anyway.

Drain bolt and filter torque: the owner’s manual specifies 43 N·m (31 ft·lbf) for the oil drain bolt and 17 N·m (12 ft·lbf) for the filter. Several owners report stripping the drain-bolt threads at the full figure, so use a new crush washer, a calibrated torque wrench, and stop as soon as the wrench clicks.

Tools for the job

These are the tools you need to service an MT-07 at home. Each link opens Amazon’s current options so you can compare prices and reviews.

MT-07 spark plugs

The MT-07 uses two NGK LMAR8A-9 plugs gapped at 0.8–0.9 mm. Double-check the part number before you buy: the similar-looking LMAR6A-9 is a different heat range and is often listed alongside it.

We could not find a genuine NGK LMAR8A-9 listing on Amazon.com at a fair price when we checked, so we are not linking one. Buy it from a motorcycle parts retailer instead.

MT-07 air filter

The stock air filter is a paper element. The K&N YA-6814 is a washable cotton replacement listed for the MT-07 from 2014 through the 2025 models, including the FZ-07. Clean and re-oil it instead of buying a new paper filter at each service, and don’t over-oil it.

Sale
K&N Engine Air Filter: High Performance, Powersport Air Filter, YA-6814
  • ENGINEERED POWER: Increases performance by delivering high airflow that can help improve horsepower, acceleration, and engine response without typically requiring fuel-management modifications.
  • PREMIUM ENGINE PROTECTION: Layers of premium cotton gauze treated with a specially designed tacking agent work to trap dirt & contaminants.
  • WASHABLE & REUSABLE: K&N pre-oiled washable filters offer a longer service life, helping reduce replacement costs while supporting extended maintenance intervals.

MT-07 battery

Every MT-07 and FZ-07 takes a YTZ10S-size battery. We couldn’t find a genuine Yuasa YTZ10S on Amazon.com when we checked, so here are two direct replacements in the same size.

  • MotoBatt MBTZ10S (AGM): a sealed, maintenance-free like-for-like replacement for the stock battery.
  • Mighty Max YTZ10S (lithium): lighter, but lithium batteries can be sluggish in cold weather and need a lithium-compatible charger or tender.

MT-07 brake pads

The MT-07 has two front discs and one rear disc. Front pads are EBC FA252 (you need two sets, one per disc) and rear pads are EBC FA174. Both are listed for the FZ-07 (2015–2017) and the MT-07 (2018–2021). For a 2022–2024 bike, compare your old pads’ shape before ordering. The 2025 MT-07 has radial front calipers and takes different front pads.

Complete set: front and rear

Front only (two sets) or rear only

The “HH” rating means sintered pads, which bite harder and last longer than organic pads. Bed new pads in with a few gentle stops before riding hard.

MT-07 chain and sprockets

From 2014 to 2024 the MT-07 runs a 525-pitch chain on a 16-tooth front and 43-tooth rear sprocket, with a 108-link chain at stock gearing. Replace the chain and both sprockets together; a new chain on worn sprockets wears out fast. If you change sprocket sizes, the link count changes too.

Our chain kit guide is coming soon. Until then, look for a 525 O-ring or X-ring chain from a known brand (DID, RK, EK) with 16/43 sprockets listed for your exact year.

MT-07 tire sizes and the best tires to buy

Every MT-07 and FZ-07 from 2014 to 2026 uses the same sizes: 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear. The bike came on Michelin Road 5 tires in 2021 and Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tires from 2025.

PositionSizeFits
Front120/70ZR17All MT-07 and FZ-07, 2014–2026
Rear180/55ZR17All MT-07 and FZ-07, 2014–2026

Buy the front and rear as a matched pair of the same model. Mixing two different tire models changes how the bike steers and grips. Each pick below shows the front tire first, then the rear.

Best sport tire: Michelin Power 6

Michelin’s road-sport tire, for riders who push hard on twisty roads and want strong grip in the dry and the wet.

Best value: Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300

A sport radial at a lower price than the premium brands, a common choice for everyday riding and commuting.

Sport-touring pick: Pirelli Angel GT

Pirelli’s sport-touring tire, built for mileage and wet-weather grip rather than track days.

Budget pick: Shinko 005 Advance

The lowest-cost radial pair in the right sizes, for riders who want fresh rubber on a tight budget.

MT-07 tire pressure

Set the tires cold, before riding: 225 kPa (33 psi) front and 250 kPa (36 psi) rear. The owner’s manual uses the same pressures for solo riding and with a passenger, up to the bike’s 176 kg (388 lb) maximum load.

Before you order, check the size printed on your current tires; a previous owner may have fitted something different. Have tires fitted and balanced by a shop if you don’t have a tire changer.

Yamaha MT-07 parts FAQ

Is the FZ-07 the same bike as the MT-07?

Yes. Yamaha sold the MT-07 in the US and Canada as the FZ-07 for 2015–2017 and used the MT-07 name everywhere from 2018. Parts for a 2015–2017 FZ-07 match the 2014–2017 MT-07.

How much oil does an MT-07 take?

2.6 L (2.75 US qt) with a filter change and 2.3 L (2.43 US qt) without. Use 10W-40 motorcycle oil rated JASO MA.

What oil filter fits the MT-07?

The Hiflofiltro HF204, or the HF204RC with a removal nut. Both fit the MT-07 and FZ-07.

What spark plug does the MT-07 use?

Two NGK LMAR8A-9 plugs, gapped 0.8–0.9 mm.

What tire size is the MT-07?

120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear on every model year from 2014 to 2026, including the FZ-07.

What tire pressure should the MT-07 run?

33 psi (225 kPa) front and 36 psi (250 kPa) rear, checked cold.

What battery does the MT-07 use?

A YTZ10S-size 12 V battery, on every model year.

What is the MT-07 oil drain bolt torque?

43 N·m (31 ft·lbf) per the owner’s manual, with a new crush washer. Use a torque wrench, as over-tightening can strip the threads.

What brake pads fit the MT-07?

EBC FA252 front (two sets) and FA174 rear for 2015–2021 bikes. The 2025 model’s radial calipers take different front pads.

Do 2025 MT-07 parts fit older models?

Engine service parts mostly do. The 2025 bike has a new frame, an inverted fork and radial front calipers, so check brake, suspension and wheel parts by year.

MT-07 sister bikes that share parts

The Yamaha XSR700 is built on the MT-07, and the Ténéré 700 uses the same CP2 twin. Many engine service parts cross over between them, but frames, brakes and bodywork differ, so check the part number for your bike before ordering. Dedicated XSR700 and Ténéré 700 guides are coming soon.
