This Harley-Davidson Street Glide parts and maintenance guide covers the Milwaukee-Eight Street Glide (FLHX) from 2017 to 2026: the air- and oil-cooled Milwaukee-Eight from 2017 to 2023, and the Milwaukee-Eight 117 with liquid-cooled heads from 2024. Engine service parts carry over across those years. Below are the specs and the parts that fit, so you order the right thing the first time.

Quick picks: everything for a Street Glide oil change
The Milwaukee-Eight engine takes about 5 US qt of 20W-50 with a new filter. Add 4.5 qt, run the engine, then top up to the dipstick mark. The primary and transmission each take about 1 qt of their own lubricant.

This guide covers Milwaukee-Eight bikes only. The 2014–2016 Street Glide used the Twin Cam 103 engine, which has different oil and spark plug specs, so check your owner’s manual if you ride one.
Best engine oil for the Street Glide
Harley-Davidson specifies 20W-50 V-twin oil, such as Screamin’ Eagle SYN3, Mobil 1 V-Twin or Castrol V-Twin. Plan on 5 quarts for an oil and filter change.
- Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 (3 quarts): a full-synthetic V-twin oil sold as a three-pack; buy two packs for a full change.
- Amsoil 20W-50 V-Twin (1 quart): a full-synthetic alternative, sold by the quart.
Street Glide oil filter
Milwaukee-Eight Touring bikes take the Hiflofiltro HF171, which replaces Harley’s 63798-99 filter. Choose the chrome HF171C or the black HF171B to match your engine trim.
Drain plug torque: tighten the engine oil drain plug to 14–21 lbf·ft (19–28 N·m) with a new O-ring. The transmission has its own drain plug, so make sure you are draining the engine oil.
Tools for the job
These are the tools you need to service a Street Glide at home. Each link opens Amazon’s current options so you can compare prices and reviews.
- Torque wrench (3/8″ drive) for the 14–21 lbf·ft drain plug
- Oil filter wrench sized for Harley filters
- Oil drain pan holds 5 quarts or more
- Motorcycle lift jack to raise a 800 lb bagger safely
- Belt tension gauge for the 10 lb deflection check
- Digital tire pressure gauge for the 36/40 psi check
- Battery tender to keep the battery healthy over winter
Street Glide spark plugs
The Milwaukee-Eight uses NGK CR9EIX iridium plugs, which replace Harley part 31600085, gapped at 0.8 mm. Harley-Davidson suggests changing them every 30,000 miles or two years.
- You can depend on NGK for quality and reliability
- Constructed from durable material
Street Glide battery
Harley Touring models take a YTX30L / YIX30L-size battery (Harley part 66010-97A). The Yuasa YIX30L below is factory-activated and ready to install.
- Yuasa YIX series batteries were created for increased cold climate performance
- Advanced lead-calcium technology – holds its specific gravity more than 3 times longer than conventional lead antimony batteries
- Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) separators absorb electrolyte making the battery nonspillable, the valve regulated design eliminates water loss and the need for refilling
Street Glide belt drive
The Street Glide uses a belt final drive, not a chain. Check tension with the bike on its wheels: the belt should deflect 6.4–11.1 mm (¼–7⁄16 in) under 10 lb (4.5 kg) of force at the lower run. A belt tension gauge makes this quick and repeatable.
Street Glide tire sizes and the best tires to buy
The front tire is 130/60B19 on every Milwaukee-Eight Street Glide. The rear changed for 2024: 180/65B16 on 2017–2023 bikes and 180/55B18 from 2024. Buy the front and rear as a matched pair of the same model, with load and speed ratings at least as high as stock.
| Model years | Front | Rear |
|---|---|---|
| 2017–2023 | 130/60B19 61H | 180/65B16 81H |
| 2024–2026 | 130/60B19 61H | 180/55B18 80H |
2017–2023 Street Glide: Shinko SR777 HD
A heavy-duty touring tire pair with load ratings above stock, at a budget price. Front first, then rear.
2024–2026 Street Glide: Dunlop American Elite AE2
Dunlop’s touring cruiser tire in the 2024 sizes, including the 18-inch rear. Front first, then rear.
Street Glide tire pressure
Set the tires cold: 36 psi (248 kPa) front and 40 psi (276 kPa) rear for solo riding. Check your owner’s manual for passenger and luggage pressures.
Which year do I have? Street Glide parts changes by year
| Model years | What changed | Parts affected |
|---|---|---|
| 2024–2026 | Milwaukee-Eight 117 with liquid-cooled heads; Brembo radial front brakes with 320 mm discs; 12.3-inch Skyline TFT; 18-inch rear wheel; about 18 lb lighter | Rear tire size, brake pads, coolant service |
| 2017–2023 | Milwaukee-Eight 107 (114 on some models); 16-inch rear wheel; hydraulic clutch through 2020, cable clutch from 2021 | Clutch fluid service on 2017–2020 only |
| 2014–2016 | Twin Cam 103 “Rushmore” generation | Different engine; not covered here |
Most Street Glide parts for routine service (oil, oil filter, spark plugs, battery) are shared across all Milwaukee-Eight years. Tires, brakes and cooling are where 2024 differs.

Street Glide sister bikes that share parts
The Road Glide shares the Street Glide’s Touring chassis and Milwaukee-Eight engine, so oil, oil filter, spark plugs and battery are the same; its fairing is frame-mounted instead of fork-mounted. Other Harley Touring models such as the Road King and Electra Glide share the same engine service parts. A Road Glide guide is coming soon.
